Why LIXIR

Our principles

Why LIXIR

LIXIR is a European skincare range built on a plain idea: say exactly what is in the bottle, and let the formula do the rest.

We make cleansers, toners and mists, serums and oils, moisturisers, eye care, masks, sun protection, hair care and body care. That comes to 67 products in all, made to order at our production partner's European facility rather than sitting in a warehouse.

What we will not do is claim more than we can show. Where a formula is certified, we name the standard. Where it contains something people commonly react to, we print it. Everything else is on the product page, in full.

01

Ecocert and COSMOS approved

Twenty-four of our formulas are made to Ecocert and COSMOS standards and state their natural-origin content on the label. Several sit at 98% or higher, and one reaches 100%.

That is not the whole range, so we do not claim it as one. The certification is listed on the individual products that carry it, and absent from those that do not.

02

Every ingredient, listed in full

Every product page on this site carries its complete INCI: the full ingredient list, in the order EU cosmetics law requires, with nothing summarised and nothing left out. All 67 products in the range publish theirs.

We do it because gentle and clean are marketing words and an ingredient list is not. If something doesn't agree with your skin, you can check for it before you buy rather than find out afterwards.

03

Honest about allergens

European law requires cosmetics to declare 26 fragrance allergens by name wherever they occur. Fifty of our formulas contain at least one, most often limonene or linalool, both of which occur naturally in essential oils. Every one of them is printed in the ingredient list.

Some formulas also contain nut-derived ingredients, including shea butter, sweet almond oil, argan and coconut. We name them rather than describe the range as allergen-free, because it is not, and saying otherwise would be worse than useless to anyone with an allergy.

Read the list first, and patch test anything new on a small area before regular use.

04

No parabens. No silicones.

Not one formula in the LIXIR range contains parabens or silicones. That holds across all 67 products, and it is a formulation choice rather than a marketing position.

Sulfates appear in three of our shampoos and nowhere else in the range, and they are named on those labels. We would rather draw the line exactly where it falls than round it up to “free from everything”, which usually means nobody has checked.

05

Never tested on animals

Testing cosmetics on animals has been illegal in the European Union since 2013, for finished products and for their individual ingredients alike. Ours are made and sold under that law.

We hold no third-party cruelty-free certification, so we do not display one. The legal position is the honest answer, and it is the stronger one.
